Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that getting tuition can be confusing. So we have answered some of the frequently asked questions below. If you still have questions, please feel free to email us at hello@theteenagetutor.com.
All lessons are delivered online, so your child will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with a stable internet connection. We use Tutorcrunchers' video platform to provide our lessons, with screensharing and interactive whiteboard tools to ensure that our classes are engaging. Tutors often email resources or worksheets in advance.
Please note: Recording of lessons is not allowed under any circumstances.
Yes, we always try our best to accommodate requests for a tutor of a specific gender. However, we can’t guarantee this due to the high demand for our services.
Once your child is matched with a Teenage Tutor, we expect that they will continue with them for the rest of the academic year. However, there is no long-term commitment beyond each booked session (see our cancellation policy).
Occasionally, a tutor may need to step away due to personal reasons. In such cases, we will always give you as much notice as possible and find a suitable replacement.
No, we do not offer taster sessions as our model is already designed to be entirely commitment-free. You are under no obligation to book further lessons if you are not satisfied. However, please be reassured that this is a rare occurrence with our service! Should you feel the tutor is not the right fit, we will do our best to arrange a suitable replacement.
Many of our tutors are also willing to offer a brief introductory phone call (typically under 10 minutes) before the first session. This provides an opportunity to discuss goals and scheduling.
Yes, we are able to offer reservations for all year groups. This involves a deposit of the cost of one hour of tuition, which is then redeemable against your first lesson. Our most popular reservation system is for 11+ preparation, and we offer this up to 3 years in advance.
We will confirm the start date of your tuition and allocate you a tutor at the start of the requested academic year. For 11+ tuition, this tutor will not be able to start until after the current cohort has sat their exam in early September.
Please note: We are happy to delay the start date to suit your requirements.
As many as you like! We do not require any commitment beyond the next booked lesson.
Not necessarily – we can be very flexible. You can choose to have weekly, fortnightly, or ad-hoc sessions, depending on what suits your child best. We also offer intensive revision packages during the holidays, which can include multiple sessions a day.
Once you have agreed on a regular time slot, we will assume you would like to continue each week (including during school holidays and half-terms) unless you let us know otherwise. There is no need to commit to a block of lessons, but just keep us updated on your plans!
Yes, definitely! We offer holiday revision plans tailored to your child’s needs, which can include multiple lessons per week or even per day. Whether you are looking to build confidence, catch up on missed content, or prepare for exams, we can put together a personalised plan.
Just let us know what you are hoping to achieve, and we will work with you to create a focused and flexible schedule that fits around your holiday plans.
When you sign up to have a tutor, you are paying for an hour of their time to support your child. Although they will be able to offer some support outside of these lessons, please contact our Head Tutor, Alex, for any specific questions regarding exam format, school concerns or additional support.
